I managed to fall for three April Fools jokes yesterday. Needless to say, I felt a little foolish.
First, I started reading this article about how HBO would be replacing Peter Dinklage in Game of Thrones. What? No! I love Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. He is the best part of the show. I got all agitated before I realized HBO was messing with me.
Then my college put out this video about a student’s “psychomusicology” honors term project. I went to a pretty liberal artsy school, so I totally believed this was a real project, right up until he said he was playing techno music all over campus 24 hours a day. Still, I’m a little embarrassed about how long it took me to catch on.
Then I turned on NPR in the middle of a fascinating story about retired Navy dolphins. Some of the story didn’t make sense, but I figured it was all explained at the beginning, which I missed. I listened to the whole thing, and didn’t realize I was being duped (although I did think to myself, “Farm raised whales? Really?” and “Wow, that’s a lot of grad students!”) until the very end, when one interviewees said, “We have no *&$! idea what these dolphins are saying… They could be talking smack about seals.”
Real smooth, April Fools. I’ll be ready for you next year!
