Alexis is already 10 days old! It seems like such a short time, and such a very long time, too. I didn’t know how much a baby could change my perception of time. Alexis had an exciting birth, and unfortunately got to bring home two cephalohematomas (lumpy bruises) on her head as souvenirs. They will go away eventually, and don’t seem to really bother her.
Since her arrival, we’ve learned just how precious a full night of sleep is, because we haven’t gotten any. She sleeps so well during the day that we’ve had to wake her to eat, and she is alert and active at night. Grandma has been here to help, and it has made such a difference. We are all going to miss her when she goes home.
She’ll be leaving this coming week, and then Daddy will be going back to work, and I’ll start figuring out what being a stay-at-home mommy is all about. Alexis will be two weeks old before we know it. I’m feeling nostalgic already.
Already in the last 10 days, we’ve watched Alexis figure out breastfeeding (which was not an easy process for us), and we’re starting to see her respond more to the world around her. She clearly knows and loves her grandma, and she knows who to look to for dinner, too. She makes the funniest faces, and I can tell she’s got the sweetest little smile. I’m amazed at how she came into the world with a complete personality all her own, and it has been wonderful getting to know her.
