30 Weeks (and 1 day)

First of all, congratulations to my cousin, who gave birth to a sweet baby girl today.

Secondly, it seems like this baby will be here in no time. 10 weeks left! Baby should now weigh over 3 pounds, and things are starting to feel a little uncomfortable. Baby’s grip should also be strong enough now to grasp a finger. In the awesome department, yesterday I noticed that baby was doing some major moving around, and it looked like an alien was trying to burst out of my belly. It’s very weird to watch your belly writhe around on its own.

Baby and I had another check up last week, too, and everything is still going along smoothly. My feet have swelled up like sausages, but it’s nothing to worry about. I now have doctor’s orders to lay around on the couch after work, which I think I can handle. Baby’s heartbeat also slowed down… it had been right around 150 beats per minute all this time, but now it’s down to 138. I have also started to feel some intermittent tightening in my abdomen, and I think it may be the start of Braxton-Hicks contractions.

This week included a stop by IKEA, where I discovered the white dresser I planned to buy was not everything I thought it would be. Dear IKEA, why on earth do you give your white Hemnes dresser a weird laminated finish, when the other colors are all nice wood? I ended up buying the style of dresser I wanted in a grey-brown finish, and I will paint it white myself this weekend. (A bonus to this is that IKEA also charges $50 extra for the white version– so thanks for saving me some money, IKEA.)

The IKEA trip happened as part of a larger trip out of state to visit in-laws for a 90th birthday party. We came home with a bunch of baby clothes and other baby stuff from my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. I think mother-in-law is hoping for a girl, because there sure were a lot of girly clothes in the bag she gave us. Everyone seems to feel the need to guess about baby’s sex, and if public opinion had any effect, I think we’d be having a girl. But I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work that way…

P.S. I think this cloud shelf is excellent, but I hate paying a lot for shipping. Anybody good with a scroll saw or a jigsaw?

Re the cloud shelf…. how adorable…. perhaps if you called Home Depot, or a local lumber yard, any where they would sell the wood to you, some one there might just saw it out for you too. Especially if you had a pattern drawn up. I think they use to cut lumber to suit you years ago…. maybe not anymore, but worth a phone call. Good luck. Glad things are going well for you. G G’ma
