Only 15 weeks left until baby’s big day (depending on how baby feels about it, of course). Baby is 25 weeks along today. Only 3 weeks until the third trimester starts. What?! This pregnancy thing happens way too fast.
This week, baby should be weighing a full 2 pounds. Baby has been kicking more, and strongly enough that daddy should be able to feel at least some of the kicks. But he can’t, because this baby is a difficult one. Somehow, baby knows when someone is trying to feel a kick. He or she will be kicking along happily, and as soon as there’s a hand on my belly it’s like there’s no baby in there at all. I might be giving birth to a ninja.
In the produce department, baby should be about the size of an eggplant now. Baby is starting to take some practice breaths with his or her newly “unplugged” nostrils, and is developing a sense of equilibrium. Apparently the vocal chords are functional now, too, which means I can look forward to baby-sized hiccups.
I finally found a list of things to help me start making sure we’ll have everything we need for baby, and I went ahead and started a baby registry on Amazon after I read that 30 days before baby’s due date, I can buy things from the list for 10% off. I can’t argue with savings. This will also help me keep track of specific items once I make up my mind about we need, such as this week when I spent way too much time trying to find the best possible mattress. Which I found, and ordered. Thank you, Consumer Reports, for telling me how to choose a mattress.
Also this week, we assembled the bassinet and playard that my mom and dad sent for baby (adorable monkeys!), and we unpacked the new car seat. I purchased a mirror for the nursery, and some tiny hangers for my little collection of tiny clothes. Our house is starting to fill up with baby stuff. My next baby furniture quest: a rocker or glider. I don’t think I can do this one online. I think I need to actually find some in stores to try out.
The nesting behavior seems to be continuing, too. I swear, my house will be cleaner when this baby arrives than it ever has been before. Which makes me a little sad, because why haven’t I cleaned it so well before? I think the nesting may be catching, too, because daddy is doing some serious work down in the basement.
