The holidays have come and gone, and we told our most favorite people about the new little person we’re working on. There was a lot of surprise, and some disbelief, which makes me think that we’ve taken so long to get on board the baby train that maybe some people thought we just weren’t ever going to do it. But I am so happy that everyone is happy with us. And I’m happy that I don’t have to keep secrets from the people I love anymore.
We told my family with a t-shirt. Specifically, I ordered a custom shirt from Cafe Press, who, by the way, has wonderful customer service (unlike the United States Post Office). Husband’s last name rhymes with “monkey,” so my brother has been waiting for years to proclaim himself a “monkey”‘s uncle (just pretend monkey is our last name for the sake of simplicity). We ordered a shirt that read “Monkey’s Uncle.” We wrapped it up and gave it to him as an early Christmas present. My mom was the first one to figure it out. I think it was a great way to share the news. And now my brother has a silly t-shirt that he may not want to wear in public.
Today is the start of week 10, which means that our little one (whom I’ve been told needs some sort of nickname) is about 1 1/2 inches long and has officially graduated to fetus-hood. Apparently baby can now wiggle around, and should look much more baby-like for my ultrasound on Friday. I can’t wait to see! My symptoms are still extremely mild. I’m thirsty all the time, and I might be getting dumber, but I feel completely un-pregnant. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is a good thing and that I’m just lucky.
